I’ve mentioned many times on the blog that spoken affirmations are one of the keys to getting me through some tough times and building good new mental habits. They are now part of my daily routine and something I never forget to do.
At first, affirmations can seem pointless. I totally get why people give up on them after a short time! When I first began doing them last year, it at times felt ridiculous. I’d be telling myself that I’m “Wealthy and abundant,” yet my soul is screaming “You’re fucking broke AND in debt, are you insane, don’t be so stupid!!”
I also read from the likes of Bruce Lipton that affirmations spoken from a conscious level, can’t be very effective because our conscious mind only controls 1-5% of our behaviour. The other 95-99% is determined by our subconscious mind and we have almost no control over it! So unless we do affirmations on a subconscious level (through meditation, hypnosis, subliminal affirmations) it will probably not work.
FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT
However, what I’ve come to learn is that you need to fake it till you make it! Every great book that I read in the self development field says exactly the same thing; if you want to improve your life, you have to act as if you already have the things you want. You have to FEEL the emotions you would feel if you were where you want to be. You have to be happy and content and at peace and feel joy and love NOW. Only then will you receive more of it.
One of the best ways to do this is through the spoken word. When you release those words, it has a bigger effect than holding it all in thought. I believe it releases positive emotions and the chemicals that go along with it. I also read that words do have their own frequency, so you need to make them positive, so your frequency is high and you’ll attract that same frequency.
Like anything, the more you do it, the more it becomes second nature. The initial feelings of “What the hell am I doing!” and “This is the exact OPPPOSITE of how I actually feel!” eventually disappear. So whilst affirmations might not reprogramme your subconscious mind and your habits, constant repetition definitely has the effect of getting you in a good temporary state. And once you are feeling better and your mind is primed for positivity, that’s when you will be more likely to take action and do things which are really going to shift your life.
I use affirmations for two reasons;
- To make myself feel better when I’m down
- To work on a specific habit or belief (either eradicating a bad one or strengthening a good one)
In my last video, you’ll have seen I hit a low point for this year. If I hadn’t done affirmations during that day, I would’ve totally broken down, no question. There would’ve been tears, anger, pain, rumination and I probably would have lost the entire day in a shitstorm of self hatred as I descended into destructive bad habits, despair and wasted energy. Instead, I managed to stave off the tears (well, the unstoppable, broken dam, floodgate opening ones!) and get on with my day, remaining productive.
If said with enough belief and force behind them, there’s no doubt they can temporarily stabilise you. Just enough to get you to a place where you can perhaps meditate or do some sort of calming activity. Almost like a bridge between the rock and a soft place.
It’s not easy, especially when you are in the kind of place I was in. It takes practice to utilize them effectively but it’s a great tool if you put in the effort.
When working on a habit, it’s easier to implement but as I say, very tough to change something which is deeply ingrained in our subconscious, with mere words. But twinned with action, they are effective. For example, one of the major things I’ve worked on over the past year is confidence. Speaking affirmations alongside changing my body language and voice projection and forcing myself to do things which will boost my self assuredness and of course, reading and learning from people who have a great deal of confidence – well, it naturally is gonna build you up over time.
Consistency is the key. Here are the affirmations I used the most over the past year:
CONFIDENCE
I am strong, confident and rock-soild self assured.
I am unstoppable and unbreakable. Nothing and no one can hurt me
I don;t give a fuck what anyone else thinks about me
MONEY & SUCCESS
Even though I am anxious about not having enough money, I deeply and profoundly love myself
I am wealthy, successful trader, making tens of thousands of pounds every single month
I am a successful writer, blogger and published author, selling hundreds of thousands of books, inspiring millions of people
I am always attracting money into my life
I am a magnet for money, wealth and abundance
HEALTH
Every cell, atom, proton, electron, neutron and vortex of enrgy in my body is vibrating at the highest possible frequency
I am healthy, vibrant, youthful, flexible and 100% fit
I am so grateful for the roof over my head, the clothes on my back, the food in my stomach, the warm bed I slept in, the family that loves me, the beautiful nature outside and the fcat that I’m alive and healthy and live inย a free society, a democratic contry, free from war, with incredible opportunities to make money and be whoever I want to be (first thing I say every morning!)
GRATITUDE
I realise just how lucky I am to be able to make money from my laptop, at home using the internet and how incredible it is that I can do whatever I want every day
Every day and in every way, I am getting closer and closer towards becoming the greatest version of myself
I give thanks for the swift and substantial increase in my financial prosperity now.
I can be whoever I choose to be and do whatever I want to do
I know the universe/source energy/consciousness/god/the greater power that is out there, has my back and is always working for me
I am aย little shard of cosnssciousness, a greater power that I have access to at any time and can connect to to bring me whatever I desire
I am so much more than I appear to be; all the power and strenth of the universe lies within me
I believe in the law of attraction and all I have to do is be the person I want to be NOW an everything will come my way
I already have everything that I need to be successful
I’m proud to say, I don’t even bother with the confidence afformations any more – I feel I’m now at aย place where I’m way more confident than the avergae person, so I don;t need to. I don’t NEED to do the gratitude ones either but I choose to because it starts the day with a great feeling. Money, success and health are three things I still feel need to improve and so I continue to affirm them. I don’t think it’s any coincidence that all three are starting to get better. Slowly but surely!

I love these affirmations Tim, will be taking a few and using them myself if that’s OK ๐ I especially love the little shard of consciousness one – beautiful, I’ve not heard that before.
Of course it is ๐ Yes, I like it, can’t remember where I heard it first but it wasn’t mine originally. Thanks for the comment Lucy ๐
